Bejeweled Twist, play menu description

Blitz is a game mode featured in Bejeweled Twist. The game mode involves scoring as many points as possible within 5 minutes or until a Bomb Gem explodes.

How to unlock

Blitz is normally locked by default in almost versions (except Steam version), and requires the following conditions to be met:

  • Completing level 10 in Classic (in the PC and Nintendo DS versions)
  • Earning the third rank, Rotator (in the mobile versions)

Gameplay

Blitz Mode Start

The beginning of a Blitz game

Blitz is a timed version of Classic. The goal of Blitz is to earn as many points as possible within five minutes (three minutes in the Flash version). Unlike Classic, level progression does not occur in Blitz. Bomb Gems and Coals appear throughout every game of Blitz, however Doom Gems and Locked Gems do not appear in this game mode. A game ends when five minutes have passed or when a Bomb Gem reaches zero. In Blitz, the player is not given a chance to disarm a Bomb Gem; any Bomb Gem that reaches zero will instantly end the game without recording the player's score if it would rank in the top 10.

Blitz Mode Final Score

Skill Stars being rewarded after completing a game of Blitz.

The reward for completing Blitz games is Skill Stars. The number of these given is determined by performance; the greater the scores achieved, the bigger the number of Stars rewarded. The Skill Stars are not given for playing Blitz games after rank 101. The player must survive five minutes to earn Skill Stars. However, in the Nintendo DS version, if a Bomb Gem explodes, the player still earn Skill Stars but fewer.

Unlike the other game modes of Bejeweled Twist, it is not possible to save progress in Blitz. However, this does not apply to the mobile version and the player is still able to save progress normally. Similar to the puzzles in Challenge, it is possible to restart Blitz games from the menu.

Upon completing a game of Blitz, a Stats Screen appears with various information about the finished game.

Scoring

Blitz incorporates the same basic scoring mechanics as those in Zen. However, the base point values rewarded in Blitz are multiplied by 5. For example, the base value for creating a match of three gems is 25 points in Zen but 125 points in Blitz.

Trivia

Blitz

One of Blitz's unique visualizers.

  • The last 30 seconds of the background music in this game mode (alongside the Eclipse challenges in Challenge) is a rearranged portion of the theme for Bejeweled Deluxe's Normal mode.
  • Pausing the game in Blitz will disappear the gems on the board, but they reappear upon resuming the game. This most likely happens to prevent "cheating". The mobile version doesn't exclude this function.
  • When the game is paused, the music freezes along with the game. This effect also applies to timed challenges in Challenge.
  • Blitz has two unique visualizer patterns that are not featured in the other game modes of Bejeweled Twist. These particular visualizers only exists in the PC version.
    • If the Visualizers option is disabled, a random planetary background is displayed instead.
  • The Bejeweled Twist README file contains two mistakes about this game mode:
    • It mentions that Blitz can also be unlocked by completing the tenth level in Zen, but this is false.
    • It mentions that Locked Gems appear in Blitz, but they do not at all.
  • According to evidence found inside the game files of Bejeweled Twist, the game was going to feature Action instead of Blitz.
  • In the mobile version, if the player accesses Blitz for the first time, a Twist Tip notification will appear to introduce this mode.
  • In the Flash version of Bejeweled Twist, this mode is played for 3 minutes.
  • This mode is also the main game in the discontinued WorldWinner cash game version of Bejeweled Twist, but the game is played for 4 minutes.
